Michael Rodriguez



Born in 1970, Michael Rodriguez is the son of Miguel A. Rodriguez and Ramona Lorenzo. He grew up in WhartonNJ and moved to Bethlehem, PA in 1987. He graduated from Freedom High School in 1989. After high school, Mike enlisted in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. As a sergeant, he was stationed in Bamberg, Germany from 1989-1991. Upon his discharge from the United States Army, he began his college career at Northampton Community College in 1992. He continued his education at Kutztown University, obtaining a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice in 1995.

 

From 1995-2000, Mike continued to polish his career with employment experiences related to adolescent counseling, special education and working with at-risk inner city children at such professional locations as Florence Child Guidance Center, Community Centered Treatment and Bethlehem Area School District. During this period, he continued his formal education and in 1999, completed a master of education degree in special education from Lehigh University. Since then, he has continued his education, having received an additional master’s degree (and certification) in educational leadership K-12 from Wilkes University. Currently, Mike is enrolled in Lehigh University's Educational Leadership Program, with the goal of obtaining the Superintendent Letter of Eligibility.

 

In 2000, Mike was hired by Allentown School District as an emotional support teacher. He started a Boy Scout troop, instructed fourth and fifth grade students with various disabilities and facilitated inclusion of emotional support students into regular education settings. In 2003, he was promoted to administrative intern at Midway Manor and Wilson Early Childhood Centers in the Allentown School District, which paved the way for his appointment to principal of Central Elementary School in 2004.

 

In 2011, Mike was appointed principal of William Allen High School.
