All students, grades six through eight, are required to take Family & Consumer Science for one half of the school year, meeting every other day in the six-day rotation schedule. Grade 6: *nutrition and beginning food preparation technique, focusing on healthy snacks *strengthening the family and its importance in society *managing personal resources: laundry, ironing, mending *emerging technology: the impact of technology on the family & the world Grade 7: *nutrition and basic food preparation technique, focusing on healthy breakfast *child development and baby-sitting *serving the community: giving to others in need Grade 8: *nutrition and advanced food preparation technique, focusing on food science *financial resource management *green living: reduce, reuse, recycle, refuse IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SEWING: Sewing is no longer a significant part of the Middle School F.C.S. experience. While a small project may be used as a vehicle to support another topic, no money should be collected or paid for a sewing project. Supplies are provided for every student. |
