August 2012
Dear Parents and New First Graders,
Welcome to first grade! I am very excited to meet all of you! We will have a lot of fun this year AND learn a lot too. Here’s a little about me. I graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1989. I hold a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and certifications in Elementary Education, Mathematics, Special Education and English as a Second Language. I’ve been teaching in the Neshaminy School District since 1993 and have been teaching first grade at Lower South since 2003. First grade is a wonderful grade!
I am married, have two sons, 1 dog and 2 cats. My youngest son, Matthew, is starting first grade this year and my older son, Mikeal (Michael), will be in third grade. I met my husband at a community volleyball program and still play. I was also a competitive gymnast and would love to still be doing that today! My family likes to play Just Dance Wii, go to the shore (North Wildwood) and we recently discovered Monster Mini Golf. I can’t wait to find out what you like to do!
To help me and the class learn a little about you, on the first day of school please bring in a picture or object that tells something about you. Please place it inside a plastic grocery bag. I’ll ask you to tell about the picture or object before showing it to the class.
If you have ANY questions or concerns (at any time), please email me at swendling@neshaminy.k12.pa.us. If you do not have email, please call school at 215-809-6350. Please allow a day or two for me to get back to you. I check email only when students are not in the classroom. There are some days when meetings and scheduling do not permit me to check email after my initial check in the morning.
Suggested materials lists are on the back. If you are not able to purchase any of these supplies, please let me know.
I am also attaching a dismissal form. Please return it to me on the first day of school. You can always update changes as needed. Please be aware I will be following this written dismissal plan each day. Any changes must be made with a note. Students cannot just verbally explain a change. It is especially helpful for children to follow their regular dismissal plan from the very first day of school.
I can’t wait to see all of my new first graders in room 4, on September 5, 2012! Please use the enclosed label to write your name and the way you will be going home the first day (i.e. walker, bus 10, Kids Club). Please wear this label the first day of school. If the name you use is significantly different than your given name, please write you given name in small letters on your label so that I can match your name to my class list.
If you know of anyone in our class who did not receive a letter, please direct them to my website at www.neshaminy.org/lses (click on Staff and then my name).
